Are the Eagles preparing for something big?

I'm sure you've noticed, but the Eagles seem to be letting a lot of players (and other employees) leave this off season. So far the Eagles have gladly let Dawkins, Tra, Lito, G-Lew, Buckhalter and Considine leave the nest. They received draft picks in a few of those deals, but little else. More importantly, they've only signed 3 players to fill the roles of the departed.

With the draft less than 2 months away the Eagles currently have 12 draft picks in the 7 rounds. I think its safe to say that they will not be making 12 selections on draft day. There's no way any team would be bringing in 12 rookies and expecting them all to make the team. No to mention the fact that at the start of the free agency period the Eagles had the 3rd most cap space in the NFL,and they've freed more room since. It looks to me like the birds are stocking up on cash and picks for a big time trade. McNabb asked for some quality veteran help and he may just be getting it.

Of course we're all hoping its Anquan, but who really knows? I'll leave it up to those with actual access to the team (or some of our commenters)to speculate. We'll keep you posted on any verified rumors (oxymoron?) as they come up.

Finally, check out a classy move by Donovan McNabb.

I was just reading an article on on the700level and they brought up two interesting names of WR's who might be looking for a new home: Tory Holt and Braylon Edwards.

While neither is sure to be leaving their team and edwards in the longer shot both names made me raise my eyebrows. Before Edwards came down with a black plague-like case of the dropsies he was good, larry fitzgeraldishly(!) good. I would be pissed if the eagles FO didn't explore the possibility of putting together some high picks in an effort to get him. I think hes the kindof guy (fast, ladder climber) we need moreso than boldin (possession)

I'd love for the Eagles to get Braylon. He was unstoppable 2 years ago (thus me picking him with the first pick in the 2nd round in fantasy last season).

Check out Peter King's assessment of the whole Boldin situation:

The Eagles and Giants, two receiver-needy teams, are in position to deal for Anquan Boldin, who I continue to say will not be a Cardinal by July. Philly has 21, 28 and 53, the Giants 29, 45 and 60. I find it hard to believe the Eagles won't trade for Boldin. Very hard. He's a perfect fit, and they've got the cap room to sign him.
